So I wind up going 13/24 on my predictions. Not too bad. Predictions are in italics, actual winners in bold.
Ladies and gentlemen, today is Oscar day. The one day of the year I completely abandon every pretension I entertain about being culturally high-minded and wholeheartedly revel in the cheesy, over-extravagant, unforgivably tasteless award giving of Oscar. Seriously, you should have seen the smile on my face as I typed that last sentence. And so, after spending the last month several months racing from theater to theater and abusing Netflix in order to catch every film nominated for the major categories, a task that I actually managed to complete with success this year, I now feel compelled to reveal how little I actually know about any of this by predicting every winner at the ceremony tonight. That’s right, even the documentary shorts. At least until I find a reason to cop out on that when I get to it. But at any rate, if you still have time to send in your submissions for your Oscar pool definitely use this as a guide because I promise that these picks will not lose you any more money than you would have lost in the first place. Onwards!

Obviously today is the biggest day of the presidential primary, Super Tuesday. Over 20 states (and one territory!) are voting today in both parties and could decide the GOP nomination, but probably not the Democratic nomination. John McCain is expected to all but close out the nomination today over Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee while if anyone tells you they know what’s going to happen on the Democratic side is lying. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are pretty much tied going into today.
Now over the weekend Mitt Romney did manage to win the Maine caucuses and all 18 delegates that were assigned during those, which means that the GOP delegate count going into today is as follows: John McCain 95, Mitt Romney 85, Mike Huckabee 26, Ron Paul 6.
For the Dems it is as follows: Barack Obama 63, Hillary Clinton 48, the out of contention John Edwards 26.
Now as for how the delegates will be apportioned, the Democrats will give out delegates in every state proportionally, while the Republicans assign most proportionally but quite a few states will actually be doing winner-take-all contests which is pretty much just like it sounds. Those states that are winner-take-all are designated as such in the state-by-state breakdown below.
So here are the states that are voting today along with their delegate counts:
Alabama: 52 Dem delegates, 45 GOP delegates
Alaska caucus: 13 Dem delegates, 26 GOP delegates
Arizona: 56 Dem delegates, 50 GOP delegates WTA
Arkansas: 35 Dem delegates, 31 GOP delegates
California: 370 Dem delegates, 170 GOP delegates
Colorado caucus: 55 Dem delegates, 43 GOP delegates
Connecticut: 48 Dem delegates, 27 GOP delegates WTA
Delaware: 15 Dem delegates, 18 GOP delegates WTA
Georgia: 87 Dem delegates, 69 GOP delegates
Idaho caucus: 18 Dem delegates, GOP May 27th
Illinois: 153 Dem delegates, 67 GOP delegates
Kansas caucus: 32 Dem delegates, GOP February 9th
Massachusetts: 93 Dem delegates, 40 GOP delegates
Minnesota caucus: 72 Dem delegates, 38 GOP delegates
Missouri: 72 Dem delegates, 55 GOP delegates WTA

New Jersey: 107 Dem delegates, 49 GOP delegates WTA
